Background
I have been a graphic designer for over 30 years. I studied for 3 years at Northumbria University on a sandwich HND where I specialised in marketing communication alongside design for visual communication. This was my introduction to Apple Macs, BBC TV, lithography and print, video and audio production, and the whole spectrum of communication. It gave a grounding in marketing management. To strengthen the marketing discipline after 15 years in graphic design I gained a Chartered Institute of Marketing – Advanced Marketing Diploma.
Early in my career I managed a print shop, catering for a broad range of customers. I handled tracking, stock, maintenance and 4 staff, dealing with the customer sales process, design, art and typesetting, platemaking, print and finishing. I have worked in various advertising agencies in a graphic design, finished artwork and senior positions using a range of job tracking systems. At one stage I worked within the Publicis multinational creative agency who were the 11th largest in the world. In the Baker Street hub I contributed to the style guide and communicated with regional agencies to manage campaign production. Many years have been spent in marketing and corporate communications departments. I specialise in marketing and communication for small businesses, health service, voluntary sector and local authority clients.
